Emergency pump recovery · three Grundfos pumps · winter pipework renewal
A fallen tree struck The Richmond Golf Club’s three-pump irrigation set at the height of summer. JK Irrigation worked with Course Manager Les Howkins MG and the club’s greenkeeping team to get water moving again, replace the damaged pumps and later rebuild the pipework for the long term.
A tree strike in the middle of summer
When the tree came down onto the pump set, the immediate priority was to assess the damage and restore enough of the system to support the course. We attended site promptly and worked alongside Les and the greenkeeping team, whose knowledge of the installation was invaluable.
Damaged sections of pipework were carefully heated and brought back into position, with temporary caps fitted where needed. Of the three existing pumps, one could be brought back into operation. That temporary recovery gave the club some irrigation capacity while the replacement equipment was arranged.
Three new Grundfos pumps installed
We ordered three replacement Grundfos pumps, returned to site and installed the new set. The pumps were brought into operation for the rest of the summer, when reliable irrigation mattered most. The staged approach allowed the club to keep watering while the more extensive pipework work waited for a quieter period.
Recorded pump and electrical specification
A later Grundfos service record for the main irrigation pump house identifies one pump as a CR32-5-2 A-F-A-V-HQQV, product code 96122042. Its motor marking is 3 × 400/690 V, 50 Hz, a three-phase specification. The exact electrical supply and motor connection must be checked against the pump controls and protection when servicing a set like this.
This record identifies a pump at the Richmond site, but does not by itself confirm the model or product code of all three units installed after the tree strike.
A winter rebuild for the longer term
After the irrigation season, with the system drained down, Les asked us to replace the pump-set pipework. We returned to renew it in poly pipe, giving the installation a more durable arrangement. The wider pump-house work also included treating metalwork and replacing other components that needed attention.
From emergency response to lasting renewal
The project began with a rapid assessment and a temporary recovery of one damaged pump. It finished with three new Grundfos pumps running and the pipework and pump-house details renewed. Working closely with Les and the club’s team made it possible to address the urgent summer need first and complete the longer-term work in winter.
