Phase-one irrigation renewal at Bedford & County Golf Club
JK Irrigation completed the first phase of Bedford & County Golf Club’s irrigation upgrade, replacing the ageing mainline and cable network while retaining the existing greens and tees valves. The new infrastructure is in use.
Course Manager Adam Butler described the old system’s leaks, cable faults and pressure problems in a GreenKeeping Magazine interview published in June 2026. The club chose a phased renewal so the existing irrigated areas could be connected to a more reliable backbone.
New mains and cable network
Working to the hydraulic and pipework design prepared by Irritech Limited, JK Irrigation installed more than 7,000 metres of HDPE pipe across the course. The new mainline included 110 mm and 90 mm sections, with smaller connections to the existing greens and tees valves. Roger Davey and James Camfield of Irritech were involved in the project.
Our team used vibratory mole ploughs to install substantial lengths of the underground pipework and cable. JK Irrigation designed the three cable zones for the field network, with the layout reviewed by Rob Jackson at Reesink. We also installed an additional pump alongside the club’s existing pump.
A working first phase
The completed first phase renewed the course-wide supply backbone and cable network while bringing the existing greens and tees irrigation onto the new mains. A later phase of sprinkler and control upgrades is separate from the work described here.
